Step number one:  Invoke the Notepad program and type in the Batch file that is shown below in Notepad editor window.

You must make sure to type NETUSEJ.BAT as the filename and save it on the Z: drive, which is your home directory.

Here are some points to remember and things to try:

1.     If your PATH does not include the Z: drive, you must be at the Z: prompt to be able to execute the NETUSEJ batch file command.  An alternative is to type Z:\NETUSEJ if you are not at the Z: prompt.

2.     The NET USE command could be used instead of the MAP NETWORK DRIVE GUI, whenever you fail to get connected to the O: or the P: drives in our lab.

3.     What does the PAUSE command do?  Type HELP PAUSE to find out what it does.

4.     Try typing NOTEPAD at the DOS (NT command prompt).  What happens?  Do a Start menu Find Files and search for NOTEPAD?  Which drive and which folder is it stored in?

5.     Try typing PBRUSH at the NT command prompt.  What happens?  Which drive and which folder is the PAINT program stored in?

6.     Right mouse click on PBRUSH and find out the size of the file and the full name of the file by using the Properties command from the right-click popup menu.

7.     Type HELP DIR and find out how to display HIDDEN files and SYSTEM files with DIR command.  How do you display HIDDEN files when browsing with the MY COMPUTER windows?
